Barbaresco Roccalini 2018 – Cascina Roccalini

Description

Barbaresco Roccalini is one of the great natural wines produced by Paolo Veglio, the owner of Cascina Roccalini. It is a wine that can be taken as an example of how the nebbiolo grape, the grape of choice in Piedmont, can give great wines. The qualities of this Barbaresco also depend on the fact that Paolo Veglio deliberately decided to keep vineyard yields lower than what is allowed by the Barbaresco specification. Here, then, is a yield of only 50 quintals per hectare. In this way, the grapes produced are shown to be full of properties that are reflected, then, in the resulting wine.

The vineyards from which Roccalini Barbaresco is made are organically farmed. So, great respect for the land but also for tradition, the purest kind. No synthetic additives are used in the winery. The wine faces a long submerged cap fermentation in stainless steel thanks to only the indigenous yeasts on the grapes. It then ages for 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels. Its color is a deep ruby red, and the nose releases floral but also ripe red fruit notes. In the mouth it is pure poetry.
