Petresco 2017 – Le Cinciole
Petresco 2017 is an extraordinary wine, absolutely captivating. In a vintage that has produced so many rich, opulent reds, Petresco is vertical in build and has enormous energy. Black cherry, spices, leather, tobacco, licorice and dried flowers open with some persuasion. All the elements are so well balanced. The purity of the fruit is breathtaking.

Petresco is a feather in Le Cinciole’s cap and has been in continuous production since the winery’s early years. Sourced from a single vineyard at an optimum elevation of 470 m, the 100% sangiovese grows on marl and limestone, providing a refreshing zipper along the mid-palate without losing any of the Chianti typicality.
Petresco comes from a single vineyard of sangiovese old vine with a remarkably high altitude for the area (between 470/480 m asl). Here the marl is predominant in the soil, while the southeastern exposure ensures ample ripening.
Spontaneous fermentation takes place in cement tanks, after which the wine is racked into small French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation. Here it ages for about 24 months before a short period in cement tanks and a long rest in the bottle.
Layers of plum and dark chocolate can be perceived on the palate, set against clay soil and savory tomato leaf, balanced in structure with a persistently long finish.
