Description
Colle Santa Mustiola, Poggio ai Chari 2011 from the province of Siena but just a stone’s throw from Umbria, is Fabio Cenni’s winery-partly dug directly into the tuff-that alone for the beauty and history exuding from those walls would merit a visit. The wine is a pure Sangiovese from 28 different clones planted at a density of 10000 plants/ha and a very low yield between 35 and 40 q/ha.
After 66 months of aging in barrels of various sizes, it rests at least two years in the bottle before entering the market, that is, at least eight years after the harvest.
Elegant and complex, it ranges from juicy fruitiness to floral and Mediterranean scrub, from delicate ematic notes to fine spice, to hints of goudron.
On the palate, even in its pawing “youthfulness,” it manifests all the hallmarks of wines of high lineage.
